Mom of the Month - Kate Pavlak

Hometown: Encinitas, CA

Tell us about your family: I'm the oldest of 3 kids, I've got one brother and one sister. My parents have been married for almost 41 years and still live in the same house I grew up in.

What was your childhood ambition? When I was a kid, I wanted to be, "a singer, a dancer, and an egg-catcher." I thought there was a specific job for people to "catch" the eggs that chickens laid. Later on, I wanted to be an interior designer and then in high school I wanted to become a therapist which I now am.

What does motherhood mean to you? It's everything - it's lovely, exhausting, fun, scary, frustrating, cute, challenging... it's the hardest but most rewarding job. Motherhood is raising little humans, hoping you're doing it right and that they'll grow up OK. It's scary at times, but I love it.

What is the furthest you have been away from home? India! I went there in 2008 with my grad school class on a "cultural immersion trip" to learn about family systems in another culture. I'd love to go back there someday.

What is your favorite thing to do as a family? Celebrate. I really like watching my kids have fun with friends and family. Birthday parties and holidays together are the best.

What is something about you that someone may not know? I'm a pretty good baker.

What is your favorite healthy and unhealthy food? Healthy - nut butters, salad. Unhealthy - CHOCOLATE. All kids, especially milk chocolate. And those Cadbury Mini Eggs.

What is your favorite color? Navy blue.

What is your favorite song or artist? I use to be so into emo and indie music when I was a teenager but now all I listen to are podcasts about Real Housewives drama. My wedding song was Ray Lamontagne's "Let It Be Me" and I think one of the prettiest songs ever is "When You Come Back Down" by Nickel Creek.

What TV shows are you currently watching? Real Housewives of SLC and Miami. Also, "Fleishman's In Trouble." I just finished "She Said" on the Peacock app which was so good.

Proudest moment: Passing my state boards and becoming a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us: I'm a Marriage & Family Therapist but I don't treat couples, families, or children.
